How to Stay Motivated

Amazing Tenerife Sunset

For everyone motivation wanes at times. The daily grind can snuff out the flame of even the most motivated person. Author and international speaker Brian Tracy lists 7 ways to get and stay motivated on the Success blog.

Get Serious

It is easy to set low goals for yourself. The lower your expectations the less likely you will disappoint yourself. Aiming low and hitting low is no challenge and will not achieve much. It is better to aim high, set big goals. Even if you do not completely achieve them you will be challenged to do more and do it better. It is better to aim high and land a bit below that than to aim low and hit low.

Know your Limiting Step

Tracy advises that you determine what is holding you back from achieving your dreams. What do you need to know? What skills do you need to develop or enhance? Once you know what you want to achieve do some research to find out what it will take to do it. Talk to people who have achieved what you want. The more you learn the better able you are to succeed.

Take Care of Yourself

You must take good care of your body to have the energy to work hard and achieve great things. That means proper diet, exercise, and enough rest and sleep. Your body is like a machine in this sense. If you do not take care of it then it will break down and you will not have the energy to get things done.

Watch Your Self-Talk

Tracy advises: “Control your inner dialogue and practice positive self-talk. How? Say, “I’m the best.” Say it. Say, “I like myself,” “I can do it,” “I love my work.” If you say those things to yourself and you don’t believe them, isn’t that lying to yourself? No, that’s not lying to yourself—it’s telling the truth in advance. Because it doesn’t matter where you’re coming from—all that matters is where you’re going.”

Talk to yourself the way you want to be, not the way you may feel right now. Stop negative self-talk. Replace negative self-talk with positive thoughts.

Get Going

Develop a bias for action. Move fast. Be energetic. Being dynamic helps feed your self esteem and that builds self confidence and enables you to accomplish more. It motivates you!
