Your Self Improvement Project – Part V

great_idea2This is Part V of a Self-Improvement Project inspired by a blog post from Darren Hardy.  Today I look at the second book in the series–

Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy – here is what I learned from this book:

Find out what other successful people do the same things until you achieve success.

Develop the habit of focus. Concentrate on your most important task, do it well and finish it. Your frog is your most important task to be completed.

  • Take action immediately.
  • Follow this formula to achieve success:
    • Find out exactly what you want to achieve and pursue it.
    • Write it down.
    • Set a deadline to achieve your goal and write it down.
    • Make a list of everything you can think of that you need to do to achieve your goal.
    • Organize that list into a plan.
    • Take action on that plan immediately.
    • Resolve to do something every single day to achieve your goal.
  • Plan every day in advance. Create your To-Do List for each day.
  • Apply the Pareto Principle or the 80/20 rule to all you do.
  • Consider the consequences of what you want and what you have to do.
  • Think about the long term.
  • Use the ABCDE system to prioritize continually.
  • Focus on key result activities.
  • Prepare thoroughly before you begin.
  • Upgrade your skills.
  • Motivate yourself into action.
  • Slice and dice the big tasks.

This is not an exhaustive list of everything in the book but is a good starting point for the most important tips. I’ve committed to identifying just three key disciplines or techniques from each of the books I am using in this project. As you can see winnowing this down to three is very difficult because they are all excellent ideas.

Here are the three most important to me. These are the ones I think I would benefit most from cultivating further:

  1. Find out what other successful people do the same things until you achieve success.
  1. Plan every day in advance. Create your To-Do List for each day.
  1. Focus on key result activities.

  1. Wow! You have inspired me. I have a list of things I keep putting off. Thanks for the motivation! I will be reading the book soon. I am just finishing up a great book called, “Creating Hate: How It Is Done, How To Destroy It: A Practical Handbook,” by author Nancy Omeara. For such a short read there is tons of valuable information.

    • Robert,

Thanks for the reply. It is always great to hear from my readers and I am very pleased that you find the articles inspiring. I will check into the site and book you reference by Omeara. To paraphrase Maya Angelou, hate has destroyed so much and has created nothing of value.

      Best wishes to you,
