Drink From Many Cups

While I read a large number of books on finance, wealth building and time management I also understand the importance of reading other books – books from many sources and on may topics.

Part of building true wealth is building knowledge on a broad spectrum. It is about broadening yourself as a person. Reading from only one or two areas exclusively will not accomplish that. You must drink from many different cups to round your knowledge and perspective.

Everyone’s reading list will be different. It depends on what you enjoy reading and what appeals to you. That is a good thing. We are all different and we all need a different list. Just to illustrate what I mean by reading from different areas I will list here some of the books I’ve read most recently.

The Poisoner’s Handbook by Deborah Blum: a fascinating account of the development of forensic science in New York from 1890 to 1940 including the progress made in detecting murder by poison.

The Federalist Papers: a series of newspaper articles by three of our founding fathers on why the Constitution should be adopted by the people of the United States.

Into the Stormby Dennis Perkins and Jill Murphy: a fascinating and exciting story of the 1998 Sydney to Hobard yacht race and the lessons we can all learn from the success of one small boat in that race.

A Universe from Nothing by Lawrence M. Krauss: a fascinating look into current thinking in theoretical physics.

The Man Who Quit Money by Mark Sundeen: a wonderful account of a man named Daniel Suelo who has, for the past decade, lived without using any money in any form.

Those are the ones I’ve read in just the past couple months. I also read fiction, though not as much as I read non-fiction. All of these sources enlighten and broaden my views.

Right now I am reading a fascinating biography on Steve Jobs, one of the founders of Apple. A full review will appear
here on that book soon.
