Do Not Wish Your Life Away

It was Thanksgiving. I was about 12. My grandmother had come for Thanksgiving dinner and after dinner we sat around and visited. My brother and I were saying how we wished it was Christmas… we could not wait for the month to pass before Christmas morning. My grandmother gave me some of the best advice I’ve ever heard. She said, “do not wish your life away, it will pass so very quickly”. She was in her 70s. She lived to 91. At 12 I could not really understand what she meant. Now, many decades later, I do understand completely.

Life is short. It passes quickly. Enjoy each moment. Do not be in a hurry for the future to come as it will come ever so quickly.

Today is my grandmother’s birthday. She would be 120 today. Thank you grandma for such wise advice. Would that we all remember it as we move through life.

In loving memory of Catherine Murphy, 1894-1985.

Wishing you well,
