84 Year Old Social Worker Saves 1.4 million dollars

The link at bottom takes you to the Get Rich Slowly Blog article on this story. Unfortunately I could not get the links to the original newspaper story to work, however a scan of other blogs finds the story picked up and though I have not been able to confirm it fully it appears to be true.

The lesson here is not that we can all become a millionaire by pinching pennies. Likewise it is not that you have to reach your 80s to become wealthy.

The lesson is that frugality has an important role to play in freeing up your available capital so you can build wealth. Most ordinary wealthy people (excluding the showy movie stars and other ostentatious millionaires) do not over spend – they are relatively frugal. This has been documented many times. The less you spend the more you have to save, invest and use to build wealth.
